Go Green with Calypso Studios Inc. (review)

I've mentioned a few times before that I am taking baby steps toward living a more eco-friendly life. I think the easiest way to start is by using reusable bags, so I was pumped when Calypso Studios Inc offered to send me one of their SHOP totes!

SHOP stands for Start Helping Our Planet... and this goes hand in hand about what I just said about this being such an easy way to live "greener"!

Check out these Reusable Tote Facts I found on the Calypso Studios site:
  • Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide.
  • According to the EPA, over 380 billion in the US each year, that's more than 1,200 per resident and about 12 million barrels of oil to make that many bags.
  • Americans consume more than 10 billion paper bags per year, 14 million trees are cut down to make paper bags each year.
  • The UN Environment Program has estimated that there are over 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in every square mile of ocean.
  • Plastic bags don't biodegrade.
  • Each reusable bag you use has the potential to eliminate an average of 1,000 plastic bags over its lifetime. The bag will pay for itself if your grocery store offers a $.05 or $.10 credit per bag for bringing your own bags.
Calypso Studio offers a wide range of S.H.O.P. totes and there are some super cute designs to choose from! Not only are their totes environmentally friendly, but they are also really stylish and extremely durable!

I received one of the S.H.O.P. totes from the Cabana Line and I love it! It's size allows it to hold a TON of things, but when not in use, it easily rolls up to a size small enough to fit in your purse, pocket, or diaper bag.

Calypso Studios doesn't only offer the reusable totes... they have a fantabulous jewelry line as well!! They offer jewelry and accessories created from the earth’s natural elements: clay, shell and glass. I definitely suggest taking a look at all of the jewelry because there are some really neat things!

I fell in love with the Coco Loco necklace they sent me as soon as I saw it. It is really cute and just a really great and fun piece of jewelry to wear! I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. At only $15, it is really affordable and I am planning on adding to my collection really soon.

I am a big fan of Calypso Studios Inc. and love knowing there are companies out there that really do care about saving our earth! They are even collaborating with several environmental organizations to help with their causes of keeping Mother Earth’s landfills and waterways free of plastic and paper bags. A percentage of all the sales will go towards these agencies. Go support Calypso Studios and help save our amazing planet!!

If you are interested in taking steps to become more environmentally friendly, there are some super simple things you can do that will make a huge difference!
  • Keep reusable bags in your car so you can grab them the next time you go shop. Even if you forget them once you get inside the store, you're always closer to your car than to your home.
  • Be different and bring a reusable bag to the shopping mall. You'll get confused faces at the register but imagine how many of those odd-shaped shopping mall bags you'll save. What are you supposed to do with all those mall bags you've been saving anyway?
  • Unplug your cell phone charger when you're not using it. Even though it's not charging your phone, it's consuming energy.
  • Gather up all of those catalogs that you don't need and call to request to be removed from their mailing list. Better yet, check out this free service, Catalog Choice to do it all at once.
  • Do more than curbside recycling by composting. Check if your City subsidizes low-cost compost bins. Also, try worm composting! It's easy and you'll make the best fertilizer out of your own trash!
  • Plant native and drought tolerant plants. Not only do they require less water, plants help to absorb carbon dioxide.
  • Go Fluorescent. Compact fluorescent bulbs save energy and come in all sorts of shapes so they don't look like an eyesore.
  • Consume less energy when you're on vacation. Unplug everything that does not need to be on (toaster, hair dryer, lamps, etc.) and reduce the temperature on your water heater. Why heat the water if you're not going to use it?
  • Is water going down the drain while you wait for it to get hot? Keep a pitcher or bucket nearby to collect the water and use it to water your plants.
  • Not far to go? Try walking
